RAPID DELIVERY. GUARANTEED PERFORMANCE

The Australian Silicon Photonics team has been designing and fabricating integrated optics devices for more than 15 years. For the last decade, the group has focused on mass-manufacturable SiPh device fabrication using the leading-edge electron-beam lithography (EBL) and wafer processing equipment at the Australian National Fabrication Facility’s (ANFF’s) Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication (MCN) .

Australian Silicon Photonics has developed a capability to reliably design, fabricate and characterise SiPh devices compatible with the quasi-standard European IMEC (usually styled "imec") SiPh passive-component design rules. Devices designed to the imec rules are compatible with low-cost mass manufacture, and the performance of such a device fabricated by Australian Silicon Photonics will be almost identical to a device fabricated by imec. This compatibility is very valuable to those researching and prototyping devices for high-volume markets.

The result of Australian Silicon Photonics' decade of investment in mass-manufacturable SiPh design and fabrication is a library of imec-compatible functional building blocks with proven performance. These include grating and butt couplers, low-loss waveguides, broadband splitters/combiners, ring resonators, Mach-Zehnder interferometers, and polarization splitters/combiners. Development of adaptive phase tuning (heaters) will commence in 1H 2017. Australian Silicon Photonics has also developed unique, patented, high-performance, low-energy designs for other key silicon photonic functional building blocks, described in more detail here.

Users of the SuperFab (supervised fabrication) service submit an imec-compatible passive device design to Australian Silicon Photonics for review. The review might result in suggested changes to the design, to ensure the desired functionality will be achieved. Once the design is finalized, Australian Silicon Photonics supervises fabrication of a small batch of devices by ANFF, using Australian Silicon Photonics' proven "recipes" for the functional building blocks listed earlier, on 200-mm silicon-on-insulator wafers, and delivers these devices to the customer within six weeks. If requested, Australian Silicon Photonics will also characterize the devices, and will attach optical fibre pigtails, and house the devices in simple packages.

Australian Silicon Photonics has access to, and experience with, SiPh fabrication equipment in several ANFF locations, so delivery time and functionality are guaranteed, independent of fabrication equipment faults or scheduled maintenance.
